Last week, IVAC Assistant Scientist Andrea Carcelen attended the Workshop on Serosurveillance of Infectious Diseases at the National University Toribio Rodríguez de Mendoza de Amazonas in Chachapoyas, Perú. She helped to train partners on the use of multiplex technology for serosurveillance to hopefully expand the use of serosurveillance in Latin American countries. "This powerful surveillance tool allows you to assess dozens of antibodies to infectious diseases from a single drop of blood," Dr. Carcelen explained. Creating a world free from adverse health, economic, and social consequences of vaccine-preventable diseases
About us
The International Vaccine Access Center at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health works to create a more equitable world, free from adverse health, economic, and social consequences of vaccine-preventable diseases. Through rigorous research, knowledge synthesis, global collaboration, advocacy, and education, IVAC accelerates vaccine access and uptake. At IVAC we: - We generate, synthesize, and interpret evidence that supports informed vaccine policy decisions. - We provide technical assistance for policy-making that increases vaccine equity and coverage, bolsters new introduction decisions and processes, optimizes vaccine use, and advances sustainable vaccine financing. - We strengthen efforts to enable equitable access to vaccines, amplify political will, and measure impact to ensure program accountability and sustainability.

Malaria has stolen too many futures in Mali. But communities celebrate "a huge step forward" as malaria vaccines begin to roll out in 19 districts across 5 hard hit regions. With support from health workers, families and religious leaders, on 25 April, Mali launched a groundbreaking vaccine programme designed to protect when it matters most. Using an innovative approach, children will receive three doses close together, then further doses right before mosquito season. This smart timing could become a model for other countries fighting seasonal malaria. Read the full story: https://bit.ly/4kethnj

In a recent BioSpace piece, IVAC Executive Director Dr. William Moss explains why inert placebos are not the only suitable controls in vaccine trials. "It is unethical to give children an inert placebo when there already is an established vaccine with demonstrated effectiveness," he said. https://lnkd.in/e95pUkFD Via Heather McKenzie
